Abstract

Background: Parents have the obligation and responsibility to care for, nurture, educate, and protect their children. The main goal of parental care is to maintain the child's physical survival, maintain and improve health, and develop the child's potential. In addition, parenting also aims to encourage the formation of positive behavior that is in line with the religious and cultural values ​​​​adopted by the family. Adolescence is a transition period from childhood to adulthood which is marked by various physical, psychological, and social changes. In this phase, the influence of parental parenting patterns greatly determines the development of adolescent behavior, including the tendency to emerge deviant behavior such as bullying. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental parenting patterns and bullying behavior in students of SMP Islam X Jakarta. The type of research used is quantitative non-experimental with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique was carried out using a simple random sampling method with the number of respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research instrument was a questionnaire, while data analysis used the Chi-Square test with a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed that democratic parenting patterns were applied to 22 respondents (33.8%). Meanwhile, bullying behavior among students at SMP Islam X Jakarta was in the low category, with 26 respondents (40.0%), with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between parenting styles and bullying behavior among students at SMP Islam X Jakarta. This finding emphasizes the importance of democratic parenting styles in suppressing bullying tendencies in adolescents.
